80+ runners. 5 pace groups. 1 unstoppable crew. There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over a car park at 7:45 on a Saturday morning, just before eighty-odd runners show up and fill it with noise. This past weekend, that's exactly what happened — our largest turnout since the club began, spread across five pace groups and every corner of Park Gate.

The highlight reel

It didn't happen overnight. Eighteen months ago, a Saturday long run meant a dozen of us and a shared flask of coffee. What's changed isn't ambition — it's that people kept telling other people, and those people kept coming back.

We're back at the same meeting point next week — same time, same pace groups, and, we'd guess, a few more faces than the week before.

What it felt like

By the time the last group set off, the lead runners were already three kilometres in. Somewhere in the middle, a first-timer ran her first ten kilometres without stopping. That's really what Saturdays are for.
