Gear & Safety

Intro:
As the seasons change, many of our club runs are happening in the dark. While running at night feels hardcore, it also requires a bit more preparation. Safety isn't just about avoiding injury; it's about being seen by cars, cyclists, and other runners.
Safety Rules:
The Golden Rule: Be Seen. Reflective gear is non-negotiable. We recommend a high-visibility vest, reflective ankle bands (which move and catch light), and a headlamp or chest light.
The "Beacon" Rule: If you are running on unlit trails, a headlamp isn't just for you to see—it’s for others to see you. It also helps you avoid potholes and roots that can cause injury.
Layer Up: The darkness brings a chill. Mention the importance of technical fabrics that wick sweat but keep you warm.
Club Safety Protocols: Remind members of the buddy system. No one runs alone on our night runs. If you fall back, a "sweeper" stays with you.
